Maples (Year 2)

What a busy term we have had in Maple Class! The children enjoyed learning about the different animals that live around the World and were able to draw and discuss their favourite ones. We had fun making sock puppets of our favourite wild cat and enjoyed performing 'The Tiger who came to tea' for our class assembly. During our topic on 'Towers, Tunnels and Turrets' the class enjoyed building fortresses to protect the Three Little Pigs from the Big Bad Wolf. We also enjoyed the build up to the Royal Wedding however, little did Prince Harry and Megan Markle know that their day would be overshadowed by the Wedding of the Year that took place in Maple Class! Please check out the photos taken by our very talented Marlie (who was official photographer of the day) in the gallery pages. As the school year comes to a close, Maple class are travelling to warmer climates in Brazil where they are learning about the Rainforest and what life is like in Brazil. They are also enjoying showing their groovy moves during our samba dancing sessions ready for Carnival time!!
Welcome Back  to what will hopefully be another exciting term in Maple Class. Our topic this term is called, 'Paws, Claws and Whiskers'.  As the clue in the title suggests, the children will be learning all about animals. The class will be posting pictures on here as we carry out several activities throughout the term, so please check our page regularly to see all of the amazing work they are producing.

Meet Tony, Our class pet!

 At some point in the year, your child will have a visit from Tony the Triceretops. He has promised he will be on his best behaviour in return for your child caring for him over the weekend. We would like your child to keep a diary of their adventures with Tony so that they can tell the class what Tony has been up to on the weekend. Not only will this help with their writing and oracy skills it will also keep Tony from getting bored in school on the weekends!

When Dino hire came to our school

Today Maple class had the pleasure of meeting Ranger Chris and Ranger Dave who introduced us to some amazing dinosaurs and artefacts! I think we can safely say that it was a fantastic experience and we now have lots of future dinosaur rangers in the making! Have a look in the photo gallery for photos of our experience.

Children's responses;

 'I liked it when Chip tried to eat the Rangers' hat instead of eating Kaelan!' (Daniella)

'I liked feeding the fish to Spike' (Ellis)

'I liked having my photo taken with Spike' (Logan)

'I liked it when Tony our dinosaur met Trixie, his sister!' (Evie)

'I liked tickling Bradley under his chin' (Owain)

'It was awesome!!!' (Everybody!!!)

Meeting Baby Bradley and Baby Trixie

Our trip to the National Museum of Wales

Maple class and Tony the triceratops spent an exciting day exploring the Museum.When we arrived we discovered claws resting on the top of the museum! The first sign that we were definitely going to see something very big!

We went back in time to the Jurassic period and discovered fossils of actual dinosaurs and their eggs. It was amazing! Tony was very excited to meet some of his relatives although they were looking very different to the last time he saw them!

 The class became palaeontologists and dug for fossils in the dinosaur dig pit. For their first attempt they were very successful at finding fossils.A couple braved getting up close with a T-Rex and escaped being eaten! Others enjoyed dressing up as dinosaurs, looking at dinosaur books or watching videos about the baby dinosaur hatching from the egg.

What some of the children thought;

'I enjoyed digging for bones.' (Marlie)

'I enjoyed looking at the T-Rex (Owain)

'I loved the dinosaur dig, I found bones!' (Layla)

'I liked seeing all the animals' (Kaelan)

'I liked seeing the dinosaur' (Carwyn)

For photos of our visit to the museum,have a look in the photo gallery.

I think we can safely say it was a very enjoyable trip.
