A 'Criw Cymraeg' or 'Welsh Crew' have been chosen to help promote the Welsh language in our school.
We meet regularly where we look at the targets we need to achieve, choose an 'Ymadrodd Yr Wythnos' - 'Phrase of the Week' and a 'Siaradwr yr Wythnos' - 'Speaker of the Week'.
The Criw hold fortnightly assemblies to explain the Ymadrodd Yr Wythnos, hand out certificates and rewards for their chosen Siaradwr Yr Wythnos, sing Welsh songs and say a Welsh Prayer.
Criw Cymraeg also promote the use of Welsh outside of the classroom by playing fun Welsh yard games, monitoring the 'Pod Siarad' (encouraging others to speak Welsh and rewarding them with 'tocynnau'), overseeing the use of Welsh in the snack station and reading Welsh books with younger pupils.

Ymadrodd Yr Wythnos - Phrase Of The Week
We use the Welsh Continuum to choose a new Ymadrodd Yr Wythnos for each assembly.
Here are some phrases we choose:
Sut mae’r tywydd heddiw?
Pa liw ydy hwn?
Beth wyt ti’n wisgo?
Beth wyt ti’n fwyta?
Beth sy’n bod?
Sut wyt ti?
Pwy wyt ti?
Beth wyt ti’n gallu wneud?
Oes____ gyda ti?
Ble rwyt ti’n byw?
Faint ydy dy oed di?
Ble est ti?
Beth wyt ti’n hoffi/mwynhau?
Faint o’r gloch ydy hi?
Wyt ti eisiau…?
Pryd mae dy benblwydd di?
The Criw Cymraeg carried out a learning walk to ensure that all classes are achieving the targets.
Here are our findings:
All classes have a Welsh display
All classes have a Welsh reading area
Each class chooses a Helpwr Heddiw to help lead the Welsh games when practising the Ymadrodd Yr Wythnos
Welsh is on other displays
Seren and Sbarc are displayed wherever there is Welsh
Note To Parents:
It would be wonderful if you could practise the use of Welsh at home too.
Here are home ideas:
You could do this by practising the Ymadrodd Yr Wythnos we've used in the past.
You could play games on Welsh Apps.
You could sing songs.
You could count items in Welsh.
You could take them to some historical Welsh places such as St Fagans or Dan Yr Ogof Caves.
