  • Statement from Kirsty Williams regarding September 2020 return to school - 9.7.20

    Thu 09 Jul 2020

    Dear Parents/Guardians

We appreciate that you are all patiently awaiting information regarding the safe return of learners to school in the September.

As you will be aware, Ms Kirsty Williams issued a Statement at 12.30 today confirming that the autumn term in Wales will start on Tuesday, September 1st . Schools that can accommodate all pupils that week can do so.

However, she also recognised that some schools may require a short period to focus on priority year groups such as those new to secondary schools, those sitting exams next summer or those in reception classes.  She has also indicated that she will allow schools time for extra planning and reorganisation in the first two weeks of the new term.  The latest date that schools can re-open to pupils is Monday 14th September and all children must attend school.

The Welsh Government will be publishing operational and learning guidance next week to support schools during this transition. In addition, they will also work with unions and Local Authorities during the summer to update further. Of course, where challenges continue to exist the Welsh Government will work constructively with schools to resolve them.

We at Capcoch Primary remain committed to ensuring that we maintain continuity in learning and to safely maximise the opportunities to engage all learners in learning,  particularly the most vulnerable.

As soon as guidance is received from the Director of Education's Department at RCT, we will then be able to start the process of planning our pupils return to school in September and will communicate that guidance and the finalised arrangements as soon as we possibly can.

We have e-mailed a copy of Ms Kirsty Williams' Statement out to all parents this evening who have registered an e-mail with us.  In addition, have also posted this Statement under the "News & Events" tab and then by clicking on the "Newsletters" tab.

Thank you for your continued support and we will update you as soon as we have further information.

  • RCT SUMMER CHILDCARE OE ESSENTIAL & KEY WORKERS - 8.7.20

    Wed 08 Jul 2020

    Dear Parents/Guardians

We have this afternoon received an e-mail from RCT asking us to inform you that applications for the Council’s ‘Childcare and Summer Activity Programme’ are now open via the Council’s website.  Parents/carers need to apply asap – applications close at 11:59pm this Sunday 12th July.

The provision is available Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm from Wednesday 22nd July to Friday 21st August in six mainstream settings and one special school setting.

Provision is for children between the ages of 5 and 16 (4-19 in special schools) and places are strictly subject to availability.  Late applications will not be accepted.

Additionally, in accordance with Welsh Government guidance, vulnerable children will be prioritised. However,
where capacity allows, places will be offered to the children of NHS and social care workers only. Consideration will also be given to staff who are required to deliver the childcare and summer activity programme.

Other essential workers who have previously been eligible for free emergency childcare will no longer be eligible due to changes in Welsh Government grant conditions.

Places are strictly subject to availability and making an application does not guarantee a place.

    Kind regards

  • ADVICE FROM RCT DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS - SEPTEMBER 2020- 7.7.20

    Tue 07 Jul 2020

    Dear Parents/Guardians

We appreciate that you are all patiently awaiting information regarding the safe return of learners to school in the September.

It was the Director of Education's intention to issue this today, but it has been decided to wait until the end of this week when guidance from Welsh Government is expected.

We at Capcoch Primary remain committed to ensuring that we maintain continuity in learning and to safely maximise the opportunities to engage all learners in learning,  particularly the most vulnerable. To enable us to plan effectively for this, a directive on the social distancing requirements for September is essential from the Welsh Government and RCT.   It is undoubtedly a challenge to plan in an informed manner for September given that the transmission rate and the science may well fluctuate over the next 2 months. Nevertheless, it is important to draw on what is happening nationally and you will be aware that schools, college and nurseries in England are set to open fully in September, with the reintroduction of mandatory attendance. Schools in Scotland are set to reopen to pupils on 11 August, with no social distancing or home learning required. In Ireland, Public Health guidance has recently advised that schools should implement physical distancing of at least one metre between pupils, and not at all for younger pupils, once they reopen in September.

Once a Welsh Government statement is issued, all schools will then receive guidance from the Director of Education's Department  to enable us to collaboratively plan and progress effectively to this next important phase of education for our learners.

Thank you for your continued support and we will update you as soon as we have further information.

  • INSET DAYS MONDAY 20TH JULY AND TUESDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER 2020

    Mon 06 Jul 2020

    Dear Parent/Guardian

This is just a quick e-mail to inform you that there will be no school on Monday 20th July as the school has an Inset (Teacher Training) Day.  Therefore, the childrens last day in school will be Friday 17th July.

We have been made aware by RCT that all children are to return to school in September but at this stage, we have not been made aware as to how this will be achieved e.g. whether pupils will still be in bubbles, the size of the bubbles etc.  At the moment, the Welsh Local Authorities are awaiting further guidance from the Welsh Government.  By going to  https://youtu.be/WYhQ-19X9UY you will be able to see the short video that RCT has posted on their website on the 17th June.  Rest assured, as soon as we have any further information from RCT/The Welsh Government, we will relay this to you be e-mail and in will also post this on our School website.

In addition, there will be an Inset (Teacher Training) Day on Tuesday 1st September and therefore, the school will re-open to pupils on Wednesday 2nd September 2020.

Finally, we wish you a lovely Summer holiday and look forward to seeing you all in September.  To those pupils who are leaving us shortly to go to Comprehensive School in September we wish you good luck and all the very best for the future.

    Kind regards
